Welcome to Singapore IEEE GOLD

Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), which is based in the United States , is a non-profit and technical professional organization. Her vision is in advancing global prosperity by enabling her member's career through fostering technical innovations and exchange. The notion ‘ Networking the world' has been IEEE's mission since her formation in 1963.

IEEE understands the needs of recent graduates and young professionals. The idea in establishing the missing bridge to facilitate students to become world class professionals was first mooted in Section Congress 1996. As a result, Graduate Of the Last Decade (GOLD) affinity groups were launched in various Sections as pilot project to evaluate its feasibility. The feedback was positive and since then, more Sections started their own GOLD affinity groups to meet needs of the target audience, which comprises of graduates from within 10 years of their first professional degree.

Singapore GOLD Affinity Group was approved in September 2003. Since then, the pioneer committee members have displayed active volunteerism and through proactive participation, foundation is gradually entrenched and value-added activities are now in the pipeline. We desire to see greater networks be established among members and non-members of the same age group; to create a common platform for sharing and learning among the young professionals. And these, eventually, takes on the role of volunteers to the younger generation by imparting knowledge and experiences to juniors who had yet graduated.

If you are an IEEE member who graduated with your first professional degree within the last ten years, you are automatically part of IEEE GOLD! The IEEE recognizes that individuals, who are in the early stages of their career, are the keys to the future of the technical profession. GOLD (Graduates Of the Last Decade) is a peer group formed to create IEEE activities and also help bridge the transition from student to professional engineer. If you are an IEEE member who has received your first professional degree within the past ten years, you are automatically part of this group. The "Graduates Of The Last Decade" program (GOLD), was started in 1995 by the IEEE to meet the professional needs of recent graduates during their first years "on the job". Initially started with 7 pilot projects, there are now several GOLD committees in sections all over the world. The purpose of these projects was to start activities at the local level that would help bridge the transition of Student members to Section members and encourage recent graduates to stay IEEE member.
