Sailing in the Cloud (Talk about Cloud Computing)

The talk 'Sailing in the Cloud' was very much successful. More than 60 participants attended the talk. Ganesh Iyer's talk gave a very insight into the Cloud computing fundamentals. Jonathan Wong was very energetic while talking about the Cloud and Microsoft. Both talks raised few good questions during the talk and during the networking session. Food was also very nice for the evening.

About the talk : Sailing in the Cloud
Abstract: Cloud computing is of recent vintage and it denotes the specialized way of application development for Internet services, relying on huge server farms to handle large scale applications. Cloud computing has become a major force for driving the changes in enterprise applications, web design and manage IT infrastructure. This talk will provide an overview on Cloud computing paradigm, in which the focus will be on reviewing various kinds of Clouds that are commercialized and discussing the opportunities and challenges in Cloud computing.
About the speaker: Mr Ganesh Neelakanta Iyer is a research scholar in National University of Singapore. He has received his Bachelors degree in Computer Science and Engineering (University first rank) from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, India in 2004 and Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from National University of Singapore in 2008. He has three years of industry experience from 2004 to 2007 in Sasken Communication Technologies and NXP semiconductors, Bangalore. His research interests include Cloud computing, Game theoretic approaches and Wireless network protocols. He is also an expert in performing Kathakali, a traditional Indian dance.
About the talk: Microsoft and the Cloud
Abstract:
On Mar 4, 2010, Steve Ballmer publicly announced that Microsoft was going to be “all in” with regards to the cloud. In this session, you will find out exactly what that means and what is Microsoft’s cloud strategy and vision. From consumer to enterprise, services to platform, desktop to mobile, you will understand Microsoft’s commitment to the cloud, and how Microsoft views the cloud in the future and how it relates to their existing business.
About the Speaker:
Jonathan Wong has over 9 years of experience in the IT industry. He has experienced the web since its infancy in the mid-90s to the world of Web 2.0 and the social web where we are today.
In his current role as a Technology Evangelist at the Microsoft Innovation Centre Singapore, Jonathan works with customers and partners to help them innovate and build cool stuff with Microsoft technologies. His focus is on web technologies and cloud computing, but he manages to find time to play around with anything that is shiny and new in technology.
