Talk with GOLD Chair for IEEE Region 10
Helene Fung who is GOLD Chair for IEEE Region 10, visited IEEE GOLD Singapore Section Chair and Vice-Chair on 1st march 2010 Monday. Helene Fung was in her overnight transit in Singapore on her way back from Philippines where she attended Region 10 IEEE Conference.
Helene spend more than an hour with IEEE GOLD Singapore Section Chair, Nithin Salgunan and Vice-Chair Deepu C. John, talking about Singapore GOLD past activities and future plans for 2010. She pointed out the general theme for GOLD in 2010 is all about Humanitarian workshops. The purpose of the workshop is to create awareness among engineering students and young professionals on how they can use their skills and knowledge to aid humanitarian work. Concomitantly, IEEE aims to leverage on the workshop to encourage engineers to be personally involved in humanitarian projects.
Helene talked about retaining the members in IEEE and GOLD, by encouraging student members to be part of GOLD as soon as they come out of school. With this in mind, Singapore GOLD will be going to IEEE Student branches in Singapore to have more student members becoming part of GOLD.
She discussed about the Region 10 GOLD clustering project, where different clusters will be formed (mostly three) where different GOLD groups will be part of that. This is to get more co-ordination in conducting activities and organizing events.
